I am painting natural structures formed by ecological niches. In them, I can observe the complex interaction between plants, animals, and the planet's energy systems. I create, or recreate, the patterns of growth and types of physical actions that I imagine must have generated these natural formations like shells, icebergs, or tide pools. Each painting is a search for the right mix of space, scale, color, and substance which can describe what it feels like to be part of a world made of cells, photons, built from ever tinier particles, yet enmeshed with massive forces.
